Major Activities

Structure

Work is ongoing at the rooftop to complete the “crane dance” at 5th and Columbia. At the beginning of the month, a new roof-mounted crane was installed and will now begin the process of dismantling the project’s large tower crane. Installing the new crane has been a process months in the making and has been carefully designed and implemented by the team at JTM. Removing the tower crane is another major construction milestone and will allow each tower floor to be completed once the tower crane mast is fully removed from the interior of the building. The curtain wall team continues to move steadily up the building; they are scheduled to complete through Level 32 by the end of December. The curtain wall crew will also install the four stainless steel “knuckles” at the corners of Levels 15/16 and 27/28 during the second week of December. These complex pieces are custom fit by the curtain wall team in the field. Within the tower, the hotel interior work is ongoing and every elevator in the building is in construction. Down at the Podium levels (1-5), glass installation will begin the second week of December and continue through the end of the month. Steel erection for the church connector and the podium exterior stone facades will also begin this month.

Public Impacts

5th Avenue

For safety, the west sidewalk between Columbia Street and Marion Street will remain closed to pedestrians throughout the duration of the project. The west side traffic lane will be closed for construction Monday – Friday, between 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. and on Saturdays (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) as required.

Columbia St

The north sidewalk between 5th Avenue and the Rainier Club’s eastern property line will remain closed throughout the duration of the project as this is a concrete pumping station and will serve as the location fora construction elevator and other primary building functions.

Mobilizations/Street Closures

4th Avenue has been reopened for the public. Deliveries of curtain wall glazing unit bunks and structural steel will also continue along 5th Ave.
