On the rooftop, the third phase of construction has started. During this phase, most of the overhead steel grillage above the penthouse and surrounding roof will be installed. Final preparations are being made to replace the 315 crane with a 200-ton derrick crane. The rooftop is continually being permanently roofed in, an important piece of construction in the wet Seattle winter. The curtain wall team is hitting an accelerated pace and is completing 2 floors per week. The curtain wall will be within 10 floors of the rooftop by the end of February. At the podium, the south lobby curtain wall is complete between Levels 2 and 4. Level 1 to 2 curtain wall is starting mid-February. Also, the exterior stone façade installation has begun at the L1-L5 podium.
Within the tower, the two service elevators are nearing completion and are scheduled to be in operation in early March for the hotel service elevator and late March for the elevator serving the entire tower. Once the service elevators are operational, the dual car man hoist is scheduled to be removed from the jobsite.
For safety, the west sidewalk between Columbia Street and Marion Street will remain closed to pedestrians throughout the duration of the project. The west side traffic lane will be closed for construction Monday – Friday, between 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. and on Saturdays (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) as required.
The north sidewalk between 5th Avenue and the Rainier Club’s eastern property line will remain closed throughout the duration of the project as this is a concrete pumping station and will serve as the location for a construction elevator and other primary building functions.
4th Avenue has been reopened for the public. Deliveries of curtain wall glazing unit bunks and structural steel will also continue along 5th Ave.
